Website visitor filters

Hide your own team from the website report, narrow it to one segment, and save the filters you keep rebuilding.

By the end you'll be able to
  • Take your own staff out of every number on the Website report
  • Narrow the whole report to one segment — a list, a stage, a contact type
  • Know which filters can see anonymous traffic and which cannot
  • Save a set of filters and have the page open with it every time

  1. On the Website report, Visitors sits in the filter bar next to Include bots. It expands into four controls, and the button carries a count of how many of them are doing something. Everything it does applies to the whole page — tiles, charts and every tab.

Good to know
  • Every visitor filter works on the contact a visitor was stitched to, and visitors stay anonymous until they submit a form carrying an email or click a link in one of your emails. Nothing here can filter on someone you have never identified.
  • That makes hiding a domain an honest “everyone except the people we know to be staff”, not “everyone we can prove is external”. Anonymous traffic is deliberately kept, because most of it is genuinely external and throwing it away would be the bigger error.
  • Anything that narrows by contact — a list, a stage, a contact type, or “Only these domains” — drops anonymous traffic entirely. Expect far smaller numbers than the unfiltered report and an identification rate of 100%: that is the filter working, not tracking breaking.
  • Hiding a domain also hides its subdomains, so excluding example.com covers someone at mail.example.com.
  • The previous-period figures under each tile obey the same filters, so a filtered report still compares like with like.
  • A saved filter stores the range as you picked it. One saved on “Last 30 days” always means the last 30 days, not the days it happened to cover when you saved it.
  • Saved filters are yours alone and are kept per brand — yours do not clutter anyone else's screen, and switching brand loads that brand's own default.
  • Only one filter can be the default. Starring a second one unstars the first, and deleting the starred one puts the page back to its own defaults: last 30 days, all domains, everyone.
